good bye blogspot

Well, I truely have enjoyed blog spot, but I must bid it fare well. I have moved on and thus have left this little blog behind.
Oh it was a fun little run for us. you got to hear about my mac book and than my mac book pro. you were there watching when rory and I explored the mine shaft.
The readers sat in awe as I nearly burned myself to a crisp.
but now, my story will no longer be here.
so you'll have to go to my new blog at

blog.whynottme.com

to read my new stuff.
and eventually I'll have a kickn' website up at www.whynottme.com
however I'm running shy on desgn ideas, or I have conflicting ones. so it's only half done and I think that by the time I"m done I'll have changed the whole thing.
but it will be a magical place where you can view my photography, hear my music, read my rants, and view my vids!
hope to see you all there!

Why I NEED an Iphone

1: it's cool
2: it's cool
3: organize my life
4: it's cool
5: all the cool new apps.
6: it's cool
7: work wants me to get one
8: It's cool
9: GPS
10: it's cool
11: I want one.
12: it's cool

ok so more than half the reasons are that it's cool, but today my supervisor hooked me up with a 1st gen iphone and frankly, I love it. yes I can remember my days with a suddely crappy nokia and or motorola phone. they remind me of the days in my mission when really bad news comes from home. Hell would be a welcomed sight than returning to those days!!!
frankly I find myself running into very few reasons not to have one! The one thing keeping me from the phone that will link me to 3g internet at all times is, School. thus I have decided that School is an assistant to the leages of hell! or maybe I just have already realized that school is more imporant in the long run than an Iphone.
darn it!

Family Picitures

So My Mom decided it was time for a new family picture. Probably a good idea considering our last one was taken before Mark's mission (about 6 years ago). Since our last picture there have been a few minor changes to our family, the first being Debbie, the second, Merrill, and the Third, Zoey. Oh I'm almost forgetting the fourth, my missing eye.
Alright I admit that fourth one was a lie.

Anyway, there is our family picture.

Us Nott kids (deb included) as many of you know, are very creative/exciting (except Mark. Mark is not exciting) and we can't stand the typical family pictures without a bit of a twist. and here you have it.

by the way, this picture was Mark's idea, so I guess he's a little exciting.

mingling with millionairs

Last night work gave me a the great oportunity to attend, the Utah Fast Pass gala dinner. we arrived about an hour and a half early for the gala, but that gave us ample time to view the "beyond expensive" cars.
The table we sat at there were two couples who casually talked about the over 100,000 dollar cars they bought and traded because they wanted something else.
It was a lot of fun.
After the gala My boss gave me and my date and me a ride in the ferrari 360 spider.
The seats aren't the most comfortable, but man, it's a sweet ride!
they offered to let me drive it, or rather while my date was in the car i was offed to drive it, I asked the price of the car, and with a smile said, no thanks. I in no way wanted to be buying one of those any time soon.

Me encanta las exspolciones!

In the amazing new Batman Movie there were a lot of special effects that just made me smile. The explosions, the fire, the guns . . . in short I loved the movie.
however, there was a part that bothered me. It kind of bothered me a lot.
The Joker, being the evil guy that he is, burned a guy alive on a stake of money, everyone of course being confused asked him why? he could have kept it.
His response is what worried me, I'm sure my neighbors are a little concerened too.
He said he Liked the simple things in life. Gasoline, and Dynamite, and that they they don't cost much.
well gasoline is getting up there, but that's not what concerened me, what worried me was the fact that I too share that same love for explosions and fire.
Am I going to wind up like the joker?

Rory's Bachelor Party

Well, first I'd like to give a shout out to Ryan Russon for making this thing possible.  he did all the planning.
Frankly I expected it to turn out well, I expected to have fun, but we had a blast.  We got a fire going, we launched off the potato canon and even accidently set off live ammunition when a road flare was thrown into an abandoned silo!
Later when it got dark we got our game on with some classic 64 games and than on to some guitar hero.  The Night ended with Hot Rod, and a gorillia stripper that scared Rory aparently cause he tried to make a run for it!
It was a freakn' blast!
As for Rory now?  well he's married now.
but here's some pictures to prove our fun.

yeah it was cool and all, but look at this!!!

So to start off this blog, by brothers and I saw the movie, Dark Knight.  frankly, the movie, was freakn' awesome!  go see it.  but I don't want to talk too long about the movie because every one and their dogs will be blogging about The new batman film, so me, I'm going to talk about our trip home.
Every house company want to make you think you'll feel comfortable in their homes.  So comfortable you might want to, oh I don't know, take a stroll in your socks or bare feet, cuddle with a loved one, let your children color on the ground with the dogs while you enjoy a fine wine with your wife or girl friend that your wife doesn't know about.

But this company wants you to love your home so much that you and your significant other will hang yourselves inside of it.

This is the sign we say on our way home from the dark Knight.  go see the movie!

ifried!

So for the good news, the new Iphone is out. now onto the bad.
So my new supervisor's wife dropped her Iphone in a pool. now electronics, believe it or not can handle water better than we give them credit for. However, there are some steps you must take for them to continue working.
According to Time magazine, these steps are called, "Water damage electronic recovery."
Step one;
Turn off the device and remove battery. the quicker the better.
Step two;
place said electronic device in a zip lock bag with either packets of desecate or rice. both are designed either by scientists or god to absorb water.
step three;
wait.
I'd recommend a week or so.
so back to the Iphone. Well it fell in the pool Nate (my supervisor) wasn't there to tell her what to do, so she decided to turn it off and back on again. realizing that the screen flickering and turning off was a bad sign she decided to charge it.

What you can see here is the communications board. It's function is to communicate power to and from the battery along with the device. This also the device that communicates with the antenna.

This is the Logic board. it has the micro processor on it, and as you can see has the Sim card bay on it aswell.
basically what happens when electronics get wet, the water (which conducts electricity) re-routs the traces and by passes resistors, once the resistors are bypassed, excess electricity is forced into components such as caps, trasnsistors, and because it's a phone, the transducers. caps, when over charged, explode, that's the white stuff.
bassically, this phone is dead.

outta shape

So a little while back (probably like 7-9 months) I visited a doctor who informed me I was under weight. Also he informed me I needed to stop running (at that time i was running almost every morning). So the anti-diet started. I ate worse, I snack more frequently, and i sleep more.
My job doesn't require me to stand so I don't do that much anymore. well recently I've noticed a weight gain. I might be the only one who has noticed this because lets face it, I'm a little kid.
So I started working out again. But it's funny how some work outs just don't seem to do it for me. before I loved sit ups, and now push ups seems to be my favorite, however I'm having a hard time getting up in time to go running, which in my opinion, is what I really need to start doing.
Now being me, the nerdy, slightly odd, sometimes dramatic, Nott that I am, I found my solution online and I'd like to share my new work out with everyone.

should searching really be this hard?

So as many of you know, I recently purchased a Nikon D80. a mid range pro-sumer camera. From day one I was impressed by the quality of pictures, the ease, the user-friendliness, and the comfort.
I purchased some extras for it as well. I have a vertical grip, extra batteries, more lenses, remote, bag, etc. and now I'm looking at a few other extras.
I"m torn between two flashes, the SB600 and the SB 800. Obviously the 800 is better but it's in some cases double the price. Now do I really need all that flash for my camera? After all I didn't buy the D300 because it was too much camera for me.
But the real kicker lies in the bag.

there is one questions you must alway ask yourself before you buy any camera equipment. I mean anything at all, the question is, what do you want to take pictures of? Obviously if I want to take pictures of sunsets, a zoom lense would probably be more fluff than needed. If I wan to take pictures of sporting events from the furthest part of the stadium, a flash would be useless.
And than there's me. I want to take pictures of everything and anything.
But right now I'm focused more on how to take my camera to new places.
This past week I've been searching for a Camera bag that is both a backpack and has a place for a hydration blatter. and you know what I've found? not a whole lot. I found one that was somewhere in the 500 dollar range, and another that some lady made on her sewing machine that looked more like gay kid pants than a real camera bag.

So the search is on.

girls suck, fire good

basically the title is all I have to say about girls, but the fire portion. oh do I have some stories for you. So last time I got some friends together I wound up singing all the hair on my face and head. so this time I took some pre-cautions.

Some how the worries of every day life vanish when you're surrounded by fire and a little scared. now you might have thought someone should stop after such an ordeal, however, we kept going. it was a grand night with lots of flames and such.

reasons to buy a mac

I know, I know I'm probably just obsessed about my machine, but I thought i would remind people of the advantages of mac vs. PC cause we've all waited way too long for Garit's post. So here's some of my opinions.
1. this is vain, but let's face it, mac's are just better looking than any PC I've ever seen.
2. it takes an idiot way less time to be able to work a mac than a PC (trust me I'm now in I.T. at work and we've tested it, on many individuals)
3. the simple fact that when you turn it on, it works, and if for some odd reason you have an issue, simply restart and the problem is typically solved (unless you loaded something wrong, in that case it's pilot error and you would get the same results as a PC)
4. less viruses!
5. no spyware needed
6. smart programs. I need to expound on that, It seems that mac designs programs so well and so beautifully that everyone is trying to copy them, Windows, linux, and yet as we all no, a copy is never better than the real thing.
7. no longer do I need to think like the computer for it to work for me, now it thinks like me.
8. Drag and drop baby, drag and drop
9. less crashes. I work on both a PC and a mac, both have almost the same specs. Actually my mac is only a 2.2 ghz processor and 2 gigs of ram, my PC here at work is a 2.3 ghz and has 4 gigs of ram, all I really do on it is write HTML code, which is one of many thing I do on my Mac, my mac has yet to crash. on my PC (which is a little over 4 months old, the mac 8 months old) has given me the blue screen of death more times than I can count.
10. more green. This one if for all of you hippy's out there. we have pulled apart a little older imac to clean it out just as I do with the PC's here. I was curious so I pulled out my multi-meter. The mac uses almost 3/4th of the energy the PC uses. smile, cause mac is killing less trees and penguins.
11. Mac's want to play. I can remember using a PC to try to edit video, and frankly I wound up having to use 3 programs for what I can do in just one on the Mac. I used adobe premire on the PC and now I use final cut. Final cut seems to like people and wants to help a friend in need. Premire seems to be a little snooty and self centered.
12. simple, they're simple machines. my mom can barely turn on a computer and yet on my mac she has successfully edited her own slide shows and movies.
13. Prestige, no one will be impressed by a PC lap top, but that friendly little apple icon makes everyone ooh and awe and even ask, "Is that a mac?"
14. Cnet.com loves macs and so should you!

Ok time to give some down sides.
1. they don't have as many programs or games as PC. but this could be a good thing. see PC programs come from, well anywhere, Mac's all come from apple. The nice thing is apple can make sure it works right.
2. less customizable. It's true, you can customize your PC to no end it seems, mac limits that.
3. Price, ouch mac's cost a lot. But remember you get what you pay for.
4. some times dumb people buy macs when they only want to use the internet and some word based program than they complain that they wasted money and could have paid less for a PC that does the same thing. that's true, any computer made in the past 10 years can do that. if that's all you want to do, I'd recomend a few locations to find a computer for your needs, D.I, ebay, salvation army, dumpsters, dark ally ways, your neighbors basement, etc

In closing, my opinion, as a person who works with both, using a mac after attempting a PC is like taking a breath of fresh air. so Garit, I'm sure we'd all like to hear what you have to say about this.

mother's day and a new camera

Well it's been an interesting couple of weeks. I recently purchased a nikon D80 and frankly I love it. I'd recomend it. I'm still learning how to use the darned thing but it's awesome and the photos are beautiful.
so Mother's day was a great day for us. the whole family got together for a great celebration. as illistrated in these pictures.

Un dia con Hortencia

Catching up with old frieds can be fun and exciting, or awkward and super annoying. in this case it was neither. we just had a good time.
We went up to SLC as you can see, and than from there we went to a wedding reception. I'm not sure what everone was thinking, but it seemed like everyone we ran into thought we were dating/engaged. It was kind of funny.
to ensure the funniness of this I'll have to jump back in time.
See Hortencia and I served in the same mission. In fact she was in my District in my last area. To this day we still see each other as missionaries and sometimes even call each other Elder or Hermana. When we try to hug, it's very awkward looking.
We stand about 2 feet apart and lean in.
So as we went througout the day yesterday, we got some good laughs when people thought we were together and when they found out that we were, tried to set us up.
ha ha ha, oh you crazy utah people!

girls were icky when I was younger. why didn't I keep that perspective?

So I've recently had a lot of bad experiences with girls, which has led me to ponder on the days of kindergarden when I found girls both disgusting and dumb. am I reverting back to this way of thinking?
as to my previous way of thinking, I thought life would end at age 18. not so much that I'd die, just that I wouldn't be around anymore. so I guess yes, I thought I'd be dead by 18. I'm out living that expectation.
Also I wanted to be an inventor when I was a kid. I'm probably not too far off from that dream.
It's funny how much we change when we grow up. However looking back I kind of wish I still had some of the same perspectives as I used to have. such as; all animals can talk if you just pay real close attention, Orange juice is orange because it's from oranges, so that means milk is white because it comes from bananas, all midgets are from the land of oz, the nija turtle lerk in ever sewer, they won't talk to you but they get loanly so you need to inform them that you think they're doing a great job, the toilet is a passage to hell and that is why mom doesn't want me playing in it, if I ever went to new york, I'd be greated by both monsters and people alike, waldo is hiding somewhere, everywhere, by hot gluing wires to my bike, if I travel fast enough, I can time travel, spinich makes my muscles grow, if I lift up my shirt and expose my stomach magical beams of happiness will pertrude out of said belly and become a care bear stare, superman flys in his underwear, why can't I go to the store in mine, the icecream man is the nicest and most trustworthy man in the world, boxes work great to get from the top of the stares to the bottom, and just to wrap up my list, if I can close myself in the fridge I'll gain super powers, becaue mom and dad didn't think of this when they were kids they don't think it's fair that I should get super powers either.
so as you can see I've come a long way from last week.

I bet I could fix that

So as most of you don't know. I am a bio medical technician. That's a fancy title that simply means I do both mechanical and electro circuit repairs on medical equpt. the other day we started working on concentrators. now most of you probably won't be able to follow this to well so I'll see what I can do to make it easy. see people who are on oxygen usually have to refill their tanks 2-3 times a week. a concentrator removes the nitrogen from the air by pulling the air through some siv beds which are filled with chemicals that preform this function. That way someone on oxygen has a machine that removes the annoyance of having to re-fill their tanks. You've all seen one I'm sure. Probably in a rest home or a movie about a dieing old man.
so I was curious (when am I not) and decided to open up one of these siv beds. apearntly that chemical is more of a powder than a solid like I thought it'd be. and it really hurts when it gets into your eyes (yes, lesson learned).
However, my co-workers thought it'd be toxic. ok this is where I need everyone's opinion. see I told them that I doubt it would be toxic because it's used to pull nitrogen out of the air. It seems to me like it'd be harmless to be in the same room as a large pile of this stuff. that is as long as it stays out of your eyes.

Moving forward

My mac book was my favorite purchase in the year 2007. But that year has now passed, and so it was time to get something a little less cute and little more gutsy. ladies and gentlemen. I give you the MAC BOOK PRO. for those of you who know nothing of computers, this is most definitly a computer. but not just any computer, but a Mac, the only type of computer worth talking about (unless you're running linix for some experimental thingie or possibly to record and play movies for you and your family).
If you have the money and you're looking for a computer, I'd recomend a mac. My last lap top, a mac book, was amazing. it could do everything I asked it to do, untill I asked it to run motion. Now for photo editing, it was perfect, also video editing wasn't too shabby. My new mac however is faster and more powerful than my last and can run things like, after effects and motion. But if I didn't want to run those programs, I would have kept my mac. In short, I'm in love, yet again. and just like last time, this love won't die. Even after it's sold and gone, I will continue to think about the many functions of my mac.

super exciting

so I just wanted to express my excitment online. ON MONDAY MY MAC BOOK PRO IS SHOWING UP! That is all.

figuring out the video portion

so if you can't tell already, my computer at work, which I'd like to poitn out is a PC, does not up load video very well. This is why I need a mac here. I'm so sick of dumb computer problems, spy wear, viruses, etc. Let's save ourselves a huge headache and just get us all macs. the I.T. guys would love it. less problems, and with Time Machine, goo you can't loose! so I won't do many posts from work anymore, cause like I said, it's a PC. every time I pick up my mac, after usuing a PC, it's like getting a breath of fresh air. So to any of you out there that are debating Mac or PC, save yourself years of regret, and headachs. Get a Mac

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

it's been a while

Well let's get you guys up to spead here. I got a promotion at work. I now repair the medical equiptment. I actually wrote a blog called "promotional down grade" and it talked about me moving from the use of my wonderful mac to a PC. however due to bad internet that never got posted. well I'm in school, finally, taking 3 film classes and a psychology class. so far it's good. I'll up load my first ever 1 min silent film.
